Our funding philosophy

Salsa Sorensen funding is designed to create a lasting legacy for the Douglas Shire. Wherever possible, grant funding should result in a tangible community asset or completed project that continues to benefit the community long after the funding has been spent. We do not generally fund the operational costs of organisations or one-off events.

Funding Available
Grants range from $500 to $5,000.

Who Can Apply
Under the Model Rules of the Salsa Sorensen Association Inc, grants are available only to organisations based in the Douglas Shire that meet the eligibility criteria.

Please ensure you read the General Exclusions section in the information below before applying.

Applications close COB July 31st, 2026

Eligibility:

• Not for profit.
• Non-political.
• Have an operational bank account in the organisations name.
• Compliant regulatory requirements.
• Douglas Shire based.
• Douglas Shire benefit.
• Ability to complete acquittal form and provide copies of receipts.
• Ability to forward photos of completed project for Salsa Sorensen website.
• Ability to complete project by 30th Sept of following year.

Eligibility of your project: Only projects from eligible organisations that can clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the Douglas Shire Community will be considered.

Eligible Projects

Funding is intended for projects that create a lasting benefit for the Douglas Shire community.

Successful applications will generally be for the purchase, construction or delivery of a tangible asset or capital project that can be fully completed using the funding provided.

Examples include:

• Equipment and machinery
• Club or community assets
• Small capital works or facility improvements
• Infrastructure that provides an ongoing community benefit

Projects should have a clearly defined scope, a realistic budget and be capable of being completed by the required acquittal date.

General Exclusions

The Salsa Sorensen Association does not provide funding for operational or ongoing expenses.

The following will generally not be considered:

• Community events, festivals or one-off activities.
• Salaries, wages or staffing costs.
• General operating expenses or administration.
• Ongoing maintenance or recurrent costs.
• Projects already commenced or completed (retrospective funding).
• Payment of existing debts or liabilities.
• Large-scale capital works.
• Organisations or projects outside the Douglas Shire.
• Funding to individuals.
• Cash or in-kind donations for redistribution to individuals.
• Projects where the funding would only contribute towards a larger asset that cannot be completed with the grant alone.
